Hello. My name is Irene Hernández and I am a physical therapist specializing in pelvic physical therapy. I obtained my 4-yr Physical Therapy degree in Spain, in the Universidad Europea de Madrid, and my 1-yr postgraduate course in pelvic floor physical therapy at the Universidad de Castilla La Mancha.

Many of my patients are surprised when I mention that I was not always a physical therapist: my first profession was Software Engineering! I graduated from a 6-yr program in Spain, in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 1993, and accumulated a total of 15 years of professional experience both in Spain as well as in the US.

During my time as a software engineer in San Francisco, I became certified as an Iyengar Yoga teacher and later I studied Yoga and Somatics with Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen founder of the Body-Mind Centering school, in Berkeley for 2 years.

In January of 2016, I moved to New York where I continued my work as a pelvic physical therapist. I have fully dedicated the last 10 years of my life to the understanding and treatment of pelvic pathologies.

As a physical therapist, I integrate the influences that I have accumulated throughout my professional life. I am an advocate for the use of technology to improve tissue health. I collaborate with Winback USA to increase the understanding of how to integrate TECAR therapy in in pelvic floor physical therapy. I am deeply influenced by my Yoga and Somatic training and incorporate Iyengar style asana and pranayama in my practice as well as the sophisticated Somatic school awareness methods I learned from Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen.
